Rudolf Nureyev
For the first time at Zawya, experience ROMEO AND JULIET, straight from the new Paris Opera Ballet season, on Monday, November 9 at 7 PM! Elevated to myth by Shakespeare, the story of Romeo and Juliet had to wait until the 20th century to become a ballet, with Sergei Prokofiev composing its now-iconic score in 1935. In his production created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1984, Rudolf Nureyev brings this brilliant and energetic score to life in a lavish, cinematic interpretation. His choreography traces Romeo's transformation from a young man into an adult, alongside Juliet's own passionate and tragic coming of age. Lavish ballroom scenes, youthful rivalries and duels unfold against a magnificently recreated Italian Renaissance backdrop, bringing new depth and power to the story of Verona's star-crossed lovers, caught in the grip of their families' ancient feud. Join us at Zawya on November 9 for this special screening, and stay tuned for ticketing details! See you at the cinema!
