We are thrilled to announce the next edition of Maqamāt, a collaboration between A Kiss in the Desert and Zawya.
The programme’s namesake is the Maqamāt, a medieval concise literary format, with recurring characters adapting different roles in each Maqāmah like a short film.
This month’s programme is a special collaboration with BIAS-AME and Megawra as part of the Sightlines public programme. The program explores how filmmakers navigate urban space and how the city, in turn, is revealed, shaped, and reimagined through the cinematic lens.
The films are screened with Arabic/English subtitles.
The Maqamāt programme includes three films sharing the theme, “Sightlines.”
Slow Shift, dir. Shambhavi Kaul, India / U.S. 2023 – 9’
One Image, Two Acts, dir. Sanaz Sohrabi, Canada, 2020 – 44’
Letters from Your Far-off Country, dir. Suneil Sanzgiri, U.S – 17’
All films are screened with Arabic/English subtitles.
The screening is on Thursday, October 2nd, at 7 pm.
